stormy weather

an old soul tells lies so sweet, i choke
still I want so badly to be true

still I want so badly to be yours
but it's all ruined now
you are dead to me sweet friend
you see, it's all ruined now

shipwrecked with the intention to be found
sends me right back to where I started

mislead by my own compass
by what is north and what actually lies ahead
the wind blows east
as I continue forever upstream
stormy weather tempts my soul
backwards and upside down
until I am left washed up, face down
victim to the sun and the unforgiving sea

stripped of my pride
worn, torn, battered -
consumed but not wasted
fed but never fully satisfied
silence leaves you hungry for more
but my soul is bursting at the seams
yes, my soul is bursting at the seams

light

Well, the sort of standard line of explanation is that it's something of an evolutionary short circuit that moths and other nocturnal insects use celestial navigation for orienting about in the dark, the same way that explorers could find their way by charting a course relative to the North Star or some celestial far-distant point source of light. And what has happened since that time is that humans have come along and developed terrestrial point sources of light. So very intense light that is not millions of miles away. So in a behavior called transverse orientation, many animals, including insects, can move or fly to maintain a constant angle relative to a distant point source of light.

Words from Carl (the collector)

He writes -

There are joys in life that are your own.

A dream, a piece of music,
a poem, or a brief moment of magic.

These are things that you cherish
and carry with you.

Life being a path, lit only by the things you love.

darkness

show me your darkness
and I'll show you mine
consider my cracks
and I'll give into you
and I'll keep on giving

yield my sorrows
and I'll surrender

everybody lies
won't you lie to me baby
tell me you're good
so I can see past
your darkness

catch yourself and release
the beast within you
let go and you will be free
and I will be your home
your fountain, your heart

the light will come
and I will be yours

shadow my injustice
only then will you capture
the subtle exposure
of an otherwise
disrupted disposition

sitting in that corner
I put you out
the go has gone
and my cigarette is out

rain

flood my mind
soak my sorrows
cleanse my soul
and leave behind
a clear dew

I will wait you out
to reap your after
clarity and marshmallow clouds
reveal crisp blues
and soft whites

drown the noise
of thunder in the alleys
a splash of laughter and
a storm of disbelief

pour my heart
into a cup
wash away uncertainty
drip drop memories
drizzled with regret
leave me wet
with desire

queen of hearts 2

The gift she possesses
Is not rare, but common
Amongst other hearts
And other diamonds

To shield her power
And seize her lust
Keep it hid
She must

The hand that's dealt
Unveils a reclaimed province
Summons abdication
And (in)voluntary surrender

To shield her power
And stow her trust
Keep it hid
She must

A mere digression
Will draw them near
(too near)
To perceive weakness
And trump

Territory trotted
Bears thy suit of honor
Her suit of armor acts as a shield
As it takes blows

All the kingsmen gather
Behold thy polished steel
Only the light of Sun
Can reveal its dings and scratches
(let it shine)
And show true
Her battle wounds

To shield her power
And protect her hearts
Keep it hid
She must

cricket orchestra

night has come
the sky is dead still
the clouds, low
the air is warm and dull
there is only the sound of the crickets
what are they celebrating?
perhaps they know something we don't

Space Bank

Like the rings of a tree,
the layers form slowly.

Each ring builds around itself
like a blanket of preservation.

They are known
to strip away the layers
and reveal one's core.

Premature exposure
strips them away
until there is darkness.

Like a film strip exposed to light,
victims are left blank and empty.

Divine Comedy

the devil is calling
and asking me to dance
I will dance, I say
but will you sway with me
for fear I will stay, all my rage
a proclaimed roar
from the very root of my soul
declares truth and seeks freedom
an unavoidable yearning
to feel and to see
to touch my cheek to yours
and feel instant bliss
for that moment I am high
floating in the heights of
my mind's dreams and realities
so I wonder, what happens
when good and evil collide?
what is the result? the in-between?
the chosen virgin to drive him wild
together they can rise above
the mediocrity that surrounds them
an attempt to avoid a path
paved by yours truly
on this path lies undetermined certainty
a concrete recipe of lies and lilies
followers and philanthropies
landscaped to perfection
all the people
look my way and look away
a choice I never thought I'd make
a bargain with the devil
to ensure my freedom and sell my soul
no warranty warrants the feeling of completeness
like a hasty haggle that serves its purpose
for a timeless trade of temporary atonement-
to some a priceless purchase
to others a comedic stew of carrots and grief
slow-cooked to satiate the soul that is starving

warm hands, cold heart

warm hands, cold heart
fool me with your warm hands
the blood you pump is red-hot
it sparks the smile
that brightens my day
ignites the flame
to light the way

queen of hearts

I am the bump that forms
on your skin from ice
I am the the hum in your head
I am the tick in your foot
I am the spider in the room
I am the shake in your leg
I am the lift in your brow
I am the lump in your throat

I am the gust that blows
the paper off your chair
I am the finger that waits
that taps, that hesitates
do my dance and I will show you
the way of the wind

I am the dandelion
come sway with me

I am the dealer of the deck
born to win
I am the lady of the kingdom
one draw leaves you swimming in regret
I am the thing that speeds
the feeling of volatility

out of luck
there is no answer

I am the stagnant stare
the dull prick
that draws the blood
I am the weeds that grow
tall and uncut
time moves quicker
between you and me

Act 2, Scene 2

What light through yonder window breaks?
It is the east, and Juliet is the sun.
Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious moon,
Who is already sick and pale with grief,
That thou, her maid, art far more fair than she.

W. Shakespeare

i'll fetch the longest thread to capture them.

that moon

I found the one
I've longed for
to strike the match
to light the fire
to wave the flag
to do my dance
I sit in his smile
a crescent of comfort
from way up here
we set aglow the earth
rays of light
kiss the sky
together we watch the flowers grow

the collector, part one

day by day the collector
adds to his collection of dreams and things
a starry night
a smile from a stranger on the bus
there is magic everyday

after a day's hunt
the collector comes home and gathers
the dreams and things into a tube
shoots it up his sleeve
feels the rush a few moments longer

the collector puts things in his sack
with each day a new item
until the day comes
when the load is a burden
too heavy to carry
too weary to use it
too tired to have it
he starts to lose sight

feel the weight on your frame
a hunch that forms
an imprint in the sand
takes toll on your face
be careful what you take
and what you keep
for to keep is to love
and to love is to have
not to steal
but to take what is given
with the knowledge to know
its consequence
and yield its percussion

the collector, part two

the collector
steals, takes, adds, puts
an addition to a series
of a never ending story
put it in your sack
and choke on it
take it out and look at it
take from it what you can
and what you think you need
because nothing really matters
and the world is mad

passing gifts
to make room for the next one
because there's always a next one
a parting gift of one man's treasure
another woman's medicine

take it before it flees
take it before someone else does
take it the second it becomes real and worth having
take it and use it
inject it and fuse it
an alloyed memory
functions as a bookmark
to mark your role on that day
when two became one
and none became some
put it in your bag and carry on

on hope

When I was a kid, I used to stare at shrubs and bushes for several minutes in hopes of finding a four-leaf clover. At one moment, I believed with a whole heart that I would find one. That somewhere among the bunch, she was smiling at me as I searched amongst her three-leafed sisters. I believe she stared at me quietly and hoped to be found as she called upon the heavens for the wind to blow and reveal her symmetry.

Dawn

With a loaded gun
And sweet dreams of his queen
Dawn sits on his porch

Another time or place
Another civilization

A crow watches
From the telephone line
A bird's eye of a tired man

He found home
On a foreign land

longest lasting drug

you are

the longest

            lasting

                     drug.

i've had

in a long time

with just that little

bit

of you

I took

i'm still feeling

                     you.

in me

even though

you've left me

meteor

a solar rock
came raging down
and hit the ground

but it wasn't long before
the dust had settled
from the other rock

when the dust rose
and the people gathered
and the trees shook

but i'm so delighted by this rock
because this particular rock
was massive and it hit hard

so the townsmen sneered
and the women watched
as the animals gathered

the dust rose again
from the ground
and silence took the town

they looked around
and they saw
the clearest damn dust
they had ever seen
and clarity was found

Rescue

Purity is my poison
The unforgiving potion
One sip and you're doomed

Trust me, baby
I'm no good

Rue the day
You had a taste
A bittersweet concoction

Trust me, babe
I'm rotten

A slap in the face
A kick to the gut
Silence the rebel and eviscerate the id

Trust me, baby
You don't want me

Fallen victim to the pageant
Spectacle is trumped
The cast is one and the winner none

Trust me, baby
I'm no good

Alas, the moon blue generates a rare confession
Notice a tear in my web- Take to it while you can
And I'll look away
Glom onto the silk, thy glistening savior
And see yourself away

The spared sparrow
Who lives to die
Is born to live

Go now, and let me be
Trust me

Relapse

           Copy of a copy.

      Nowhere to go but there.

    Nothing to do but revolve.

Revolve instead of evolve. Steady

figure eight. With a semi-climactic

   point, followed by an overlap

       and eventually a relapse.

Drunk as Drunk

Drunk as drunk on turpentine
From your open kisses,
Your wet body wedged
Between my wet body and the strake
Of our boat that is made of flowers,
Feasted, we guide it - our fingers
Like tallows adorned with yellow metal -
Over the sky's hot rim,
The day's last breath in our sails.

Pinned by the sun between solstice
And equinox, drowsy and tangled together
We drifted for months and woke
With the bitter taste of land on our lips,
Eyelids all sticky, and we longed for lime
And the sound of a rope
Lowering a bucket down its well. Then,
We came by night to the Fortunate Isles,
And lay like fish
Under the net of our kisses.

Pablo Neruda

shades of green

I've crossed over
to the other side
and the grass is greener
but the grass is also wet
and the night's sky has fog

the people are strange
but they have the nicest eyes
finally with no barrier in between
like the ones that need an extra skip and a jump
to be able to get only a peek
of what's on the other side

an unfortunate occurrence

there's a spider in my room
i tried to kill him
but he ran away
and now he's hiding under my bed
waiting for me with a vengeance
and i'm afraid to sleep
